New Chancellor at HHL
The researcher and entrepreneur Marcus Kölling is the new Chancellor and CFO of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Germany.
Dr. Marcus Kölling has assumed the position of the Chancellor and CFO of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. During the appointment process, the 45-year-old entrepreneur impressed the board with his background in business and academia and with his ideas for the future development of HHL. „Marcus Kölling combines extensive leadership experience as entrepreneur and profound knowledge of academic institutions. We could not wish for a better fit,“ emphasizes the Dean of HHL, Stephan Stubner.
Researcher and entrepreneur alike
Marcus Kölling studied at HHL himself and later established CLIC, the Center for Leading Innovation and Cooperation at HHL. From 2011 to June 2018, he managed the family-run Kölling Group. „Twenty years ago, I learned to love the city of Leipzig and the spirit of HHL. I am happy to return as a passionate entrepreneur myself now, and I look forward to incorporating this enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and my professional experience into my future work at Germany’s first business school,“ says the new Chancellor about taking up his post.
In the future, Kölling wishes to collaborate with the Dean in order to contribute to the digitalization and change of the region as well as to actively shape the topic of entrepreneurship from the idea to start a business to company succession in the federal state of Saxony. Kölling’s new tasks as Chancellor and CFO of HHL include leading the administration. He is responsible for the budget, facilities as well as the legal and other administrative work.
Short biography of Dr. Marcus Kölling
Marcus Kölling was born in Minden on June 25, 1973. The family man has three children aged between two months and six years.
After completing a dual program at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart (DHWB), he received a degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) from HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. In 2004, Marcus Kölling obtained his doctoral degree from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) with his dissertation on intercultural knowledge management in eastern and western Germany. He worked as a lecturer and research associate at the Europainstitut of WU Vienna.
In 2006, Kölling returned to Leipzig and HHL to establish CLIC, the Center for Leading Innovation and Cooperation, as its director. CLIC is an academic think tank in the field of innovation. Together with partners from now over 60 companies, it developed and carried out various joint research initiatives.
In March 2011, Marcus Kölling assumed leadership of the family-run Kölling Group. The group specializes in manufacturing, selling and offering services around glass and glass insulation products. A total of 220 employees work for the group which dates back to the year 1947. In June 2018, Kölling stepped down from the management of the Kölling Group.
On July 1, 2018, Dr. Marcus Kölling has assumed the position of Chancellor and CFO of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management.
