Change in the scientific management of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF)
As of August 1, 2022 Carsten Werner will take over the position of Scientific Director of the IPF. He will succeed Brigitte Voit, who has been able to shape a very successful expansion of the institute’s profile in recent years.
The IPF is one of the world’s leading institutions for polymer research. Around 500 employees work here in five program areas to develop new materials for future technologies. As a member of the Leibniz Association, the institute is dedicated to application-oriented basic research and, together with the TU Dresden and other institutions, is strongly engaged in the DRESDEN-concept alliance to raise the profile of Dresden as a center of science.
Carsten Werner heads the IPF’s Biofunctional Polymer Materials Program Area and holds a professorship at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden and the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry at TU Dresden. His research focuses on biology-inspired materials for medical technologies and their translation into applications.
In the future, advances in life and data sciences will be increasingly used at the IPF for innovative material and system solutions in the fields of health, environment, energy and sustainability.
